Were you aware that a Formula One car’s steering wheel costs more than your average family saloon? Or that the cost to run an F1 car over its lifetime will set you back more than £4m? Even better, did you know that every time a driver clips a front wing, it costs £14,934 to replace? The numbers in F1 are incredible and can be very difficult to get your head around; thankfully, though, Netcars is here to help with an amazing infographic that will keep your jaw firmly wide open for a good half hour.

Going from 0-62mph in 1.7 seconds is great but how about 120mph to 0 in just 3.0 seconds? The speed and performance that the 2.4-litre V8s create is simply mind-boggling, and the sponsors that pay millions to get their names on the cars certainly do pay for that privilege. Red Bull, for example, put over £100m into sponsorship in 2009. F1 also takes the form of road car test bed, as technology such as KERS, speed adjustable steering and ceramic brakes all came from F1.

Without the raw data from Mercedes GP Petronas, AT&T Williams and Grand Prix Diary, you wouldn’t be scratching your head as to how the teams actually manage to afford and develop such expensive parts.

KERS style technology was in road cars well before F1 took it up in 2009. Toyota's First Hybrid, the Prius, was launched in 1997. The introduction of KERS was to make F1 seem more "road relevant" after pressure from companies such as Honda and Toyota, although it's introduction into F1 will no doubt further the development of this technology further. Otherwise, a well written and informative article.
