AUDI A2 1.4 TDI 5dr (2000)

Falling to pieces

The Audi A2 doesn't look like a regular Audi, and it sure as anything doesn't maintain the Audi reputation for strong and long lasting quality cars. It's rubbish! We stupidly just went mostly on reputation with this, didn't even really read over the paperwork of all the work the previous owner had had done on it. I bet the dealer saw us coming a mile off. They certainly don't seem very interested in us now that we've bought it. Hmph!

The turbo in our Audi A2 has had a problem a couple of times, both times causing the engine to sort of die a bit. It wasn't dangerous, and it didn't cut out, but it just lost a noticeable amount of oomph. I suppose it could have been dodgy if I was doing some sort of adventurous overtaking, but I'm not that sort of driver.

It seems to eat lights. We've had at least four different lights changed in three years. After the second we worked out how to do it ourselves, so much cheaper that way. We got it second hand online as well, a whole lot cheaper and we just thought we might as well save the money if they're going to die anyway!

There have been a few other little problems with warning lights and locks in our Audi A2, just niggling things that we've got seen to at service time. There's been a bit of water leakage into the boot during heavy rain. Now that I write all these down in one place it make me think that the Audi A2 is a complete liability and we've been silly to keep it so long. I suppose it's been just about reliable enough. And also the fuel efficiency is brilliant, so that makes up for a lot.

It's quite roomy inside as well, for the whole family, so it's generally very practical. I suppose the problems we've had with it haven't usually been the sorts of things that would cut a journey off, they just annoy you until you find time to sort them out. I don't think I could really recommend the Audi A2 to a friend though.
