AUSTIN MONTEGO 2.0 TD Countryman 5dr (1991)
What a beaut haha
My Austin Montega is an old fave that isn't going anywhere as far as I'm concerned. Only trouble is some mornings it really doesn't go anywhere hehe, need to give it a jump start from my neighbour, who is very patient with me.
I love it cos I've had it so long and it's done me so well, but at the same time it's getting pretty annoying how many repairs it needs doing. Rust is obviously the first thing, and I had several advisories last MOT.
Engine has been switched four times, but then I do buy second hand ones so I spose that's not fair to say. All sorts of other stuff too, a few alternators, bearings, wishbone jobs, quite a few bulb replacements eventually traced back to some dodgy wiring.
It's an old car though, and on the plus side it's dead comfy over long distances, got loads of space in the back for all sorts of stuff. I had a double divan base in the back once.
I had a go in a mate's Astra the other month, and I could hardly see anything out the windows, back or front, stupid angles going on there. That sort of thing makes me love my Austin Montega even more, the visibility is a amazing, great big windows everywhere.
It does ok miles for fuel, about 50 miles a gallon I reckon, bit loud but then it is a diesel. The turbo stops it being too sluggish, but the turbo does lag a bit.
Anyway for all these problem, it's never really left me stuck on the roadside. Actually maybe once, but the AA showed up quick enough. My point is it's done 200k miles and still going ok, and who can say fairer than that?
