CADILLAC SRX 3.6 V6 VVT Elegance Plus 5dr Auto (2007)

Cadillac SRX - Big disappointment!

I'm American, so I was real excited when I saw a Cadillac on sale in the UK. My wife (a patient English woman) humored me and allowed me to buy the SRX. I loved it when we first got it, what a beast! We took it for a test ride and it just felt great, it had everything these little puny European cars don't have, power, size, huge arrogance! I loved it, reminded me of home. Now, here's a lesson for any of you: don't let this kind of sentimental garbage cloud your mind when you're buying a vehicle!

First of all I wanna say a few good things about the car, because there are some good things. it's very easy to handle for such a large vehicle, my wife and I both find it easy to get around. It does take quite a lot of gas to get it from A to B, but so what, it's a big beast, I was prepared for that. It like driving a boat along the road! Fantastic size and position. The Cadillac SRX 3.6 VVT is really comfortable over any surfaces, and handles the trail real well. I was impressed by that.

It's happy on the freeway too (sorry, motorway), just handles everything smoothly. One down side is that it's kinda loud when the speed gets up, but our kids usually sleep on long trips anyways. We don't use the 6th and 7th seats much, they actually look pretty small and they basically take up the whole of the trunk so you can't really fit much back there, but it's a balancing act, if you want seven seats plus a boot then get a minibus! All the panels inside feel classy, nice wood finish and things, and the satnav and other features give it a good finish.

Ok, onto the problems! We have done quite a lot of miles on it, that's the only thing I can think of that might cause this, but still we're only at like 65k miles, which isn't much for a big SUV like this. It's been back in the shop at least ten times since we got it for all kinds of work. The power steering had a major replacement needed, there have been all kinds of electrical faults (3 separate visits), spark plugs, coils, a timing chain, a worrying shakey sort of noise coming from the back seats. It just hasn't worked out well at all. My heart said buy US, but sad to say my head now says buy Japanese!
