CADILLAC STS 3.6 V6 Sport Luxury 4dr Auto (2008)

Cadillac STS - Silly problems, such a shame as it's big and fun when it's working!

I think mine is older than 2008 but that was the only option on the menu up top. Anyway our Cadillac STS started out big and enjoyable, fun to drive and lots of happy looks from kids, and interested looks -- some envious -- from other drivers!

We stopped smiling pretty soon though. It just kept having so many stupid problems, it got really annoying. I mean one of the big selling points was the voice activation thing, and being able to use your phone without any buttons while you're driving. Good idea, but in practice it doesn't work that well. I managed to actually change the language setting on the thing a few times, and generally it just seems to do something different from what you said a lot of the time. The GPS system in it is very hard to learn your way around, or at least we've found it that way. It just doesn't seem to have been tested with real drivers, or if it was then they were all engineers! We have had a couple of parts replaced for the more nagging problems, but these don't seem to have fully fixed the problems, it just seems a design flaw.

The sad part is that the Cadillac STS is really nice to drive if you ignore these little silly problems, or if you can live without the gadgets. The ride is very smooth, really nice suspension, and obviously always has power left to give, thanks to its huge engine.

The down side of that, as with a lot of Cadillacs I think, is that the STS is a thirsty animal. I mean if you're returning 25 miles a gallon you'll be doing really well. I suppose it was never marketed as a budget car, and in fairness we didn't buy it for that, but the costs are just going up and up these days. Might be time to reconsider!
