CITROEN 2CV6 Charleston 4dr (1981)
Citroen 2CV6 - More personality than ANY new car
I was given this Citroen 2CV6 by my second aunt, when she decided to stop driving. She had it since the 80s and always gave it an easy life. At first I signed it into my name intending to sell it pretty quickly, but I started to drive it and just fell for it, totally love it now, wouldn't swap it for the world. It's just so much fun! And it's actually really fast too. Doesn't use too much fuel, and it's soooo cheap to insure.
The R word, rust, is the unspoken enemy with my Citroen 2CV6. It's spreading, slowly, slowly.. the last MOT came up with several advisories about it. I've had some welding done by a very caring and attentive local mechanic, but sadly I think it's only a matter of time. It's the underside that's the worst, so make sure to look out for that if you're considering one -- and you really should consider one!
Speaking of repairs, I was warned off bothering with Citroen dealers and instead looking for vintage car dealers, for fitting parts and doing big repairs. I haven't needed that yet but it's noted. I think the engine will probably soon need replacing (again -- this one was second hand, most Citroen 2CV6 parts are these days!).
There have been a few things go wrong. The most worrying one was when the handbrake failed, just the cable that snapped I think. The starter motor and bits of the bodywork have needed replacing too, but it's usually quite cheap to get used parts from breakers.
My biggest worry is that in a crash I think it would be about as safe as being inside a crisp packet. It doesn't have headrests either, so all in all I'm quite concerned about that. If I had kids I'd definitely have to reconsider.
