CITROEN AX 1.0 Miami 3dr (1991)

Citroen AX - Classic little car, little bit of rust but doing well

I got this about six years ago when I was in first year at uni, never thought I'd keep it after graduation but it's just kept going and going, not given me much trouble, and I never did marry prince charming so I've still got my little Citroen AX lol :p

At uni I regularly drove it between Leicester and Ipswich and it did the drive just fine every time. It only broke down the once and that was thankfully near enough to Ipswich so my dad was able to come and help me with it. As it turned out it was just the alternator so we were able to get it going with a push start.

Apart from that it's had a few things go wrong, like the handbrake and a dodgy leaking head gasket, but I haven't had the gasket fixed as it's not leaking too bad and doesn't seem to be getting much worse. The only other real problem with the Citroen AX is the paintwork which is a bit flaky and generally easy to scratch off.

I don't often drive other people so I'm not really sure what it's like as a passenger car. The back seats seem a bit cramped, and I don't fancy people's chances in a rear-ending since there are no head rests back there, but when I have had it full of people it's seemed to drive ok, although clearly weighed down.

Best thing otherwise is that it uses so little fuel. We worked it out on a Leicester trip once as over 50 miles a gallon, awesome! It's also lovely and comfy, not what you'd expect from a little car. I'll be keeping my Citroen AX for some time to come.
