FORD KUGA 2.0 TDCi Titanium 5dr (2008)
Kuga Titanium - No good for short people but otherwise great
First let me get this warning out of the way. If you've got little legs then don't expect to be sitting up front in the Ford Kuga Titanium. My kids, who aren't that little, can't sit up front or they get dead legs. My wife's feet only just touch the floor. That's a bit of a strange design but anyway that's pretty much the only problem we've found with it so far.
The Ford Kuga is sort of marketed as a bit of an off roader but I've done the odd bit of off roading, well over some sand and a very muddy sports ground with some inclinced bits at the edge, and it didn't feel all that confident. It seemed fine and everything, just not like it had all that much left to give. That really isn't the reason we bought it though so it doesn't represent an actual problem for us.
What we were mainly after was space, comfort, a nice smooth and quiet ride, and decent miles per gallon, and the Kuga Titanium just delivers all that. We haven't been upset at all. I think it gets about 50 or so mpg on motorways which is fine by us, especially good for a 2 litre. We were a bit miffed that there wasn't a smaller engine size available but hey ho, this one is fine for us.
Actually space wise... although it's good for those sat in the car, we have sometimes found that the boot leaves something to be desired. It's a little bit pokey when you're trying to get luggage for a family of five in there and you've got a flight to catch! When we're not flying to our hols then we're pulling a (pretty big) caravan, and it manages that without any grumbles.
Lots of clever things inside the Kuga too. Electric points in the back are a really clever feature, but then not exactly rocket science so you wonder why other cars don't have them. It certainly lets the kids keep their phones and game boxes or whatever they've got charged up, although that can be a bit annoying when they get car sick after looking at them for ages.
One thing I'd say, more of a warning about options than anything wrong with the car. I'd suggest not getting the tinted rear windows, which I did get, because it does really reduce your visibility when it's dark, so it's actually quite hard to park. Do that, and get a block of wood for short people to put their feet on, and it'll be fine :)
