HYUNDAI TRAJET 2.0 GSi 5dr [139] (2004)
Hyundai Trajet - It's getting tired, and we're getting tired of it!
We got our Hyundai Trajet 2.0 GSi after our forth came along, about ten years ago now. We bought it new because it was a lot cheaper than the other people carriers we were looking at. We had been thinking second hand but this came in just inside our budget. It was actually fine for us for about five years (maybe 50 thousand miles?) but then things got quite a lot worse. Maybe this is why it's got a five year warranty!! The gearbox died out first, that was only a little bit after five years actually, which we thought was just typical. It's had little bits and pieces go wrong since then, electrical stuff, brake things, seat controls, to be honest I'm paying less attention these days, I just pay! I mean it's nothing awful and that's why we've kept it, but it just feels a bit sort of flaky and annoying. We'll most likely get rid of it once our eldest passes her test, hopefully this summer.
Anyway the Hyundai Trajet itself, if you can get one with low mileage, would be good for a few years for getting the family about. The driving position is just fab, excellent view all around you, and easy to park with its lovely big windows. We tried a Zafira at one point and the 6th and 7th seats in that were a bit silly, but those seats in the Trajet are a decent size. The seats overall are actually not all that comfy, they're ok for general driving but we've been a bit sore after visiting family or going on holiday.
Speaking of holidays, we got a caravan for a couple of years but sold it in the end cos the Trajet really couldn't handle it all that well on the motorways. It's not actually all that powerful for a 2 litre, yet it does get through quite a bit of fuel for what it's doing. That's another reason we'll be getting rid of it, those bills are only going up and up. Oh and it's dead loud as well when you're driving on the motorway, both in terms of wind and rumbling from the road beneath.
I'm being a bit negative now! Our Hyundai Trajet is a useful and practical car, and when all the seats are taken out it's a HUGE van sort of thing, great for moving all manner of stuff around. On the other hand when all seven seats are in there isn't a great deal of space in the boot, still enough for shopping though. It is a useful family car, but just hasn't aged well.
