VOLKSWAGEN VENTO 1.9 GL Turbo 4dr (1992)
The VW Vento - desperately unfashionable
I, unlike most other people, was foolish enough to buy a Volkswagen Vento a couple of decades ago, and I have never lived it down. The Volkswagen what?! you ask. The Volkswagen Vento, that's what. Not quite a Passat, more than a Golf, and yet so much less than either of them. A bit like the VW Jetta, but not even as good as that monstrosity.
It's not as though it's a really bad car, it's just so sad and ugly and desperately unfashionable. I have the turbo trim, and it is actually pretty nippy, you really notice the extra kick on the motorway. The boot is roomy but that's half the problem to be honest. Who at VW really thought that sticking a saloon extension halfway up the back of a Golf would be acceptable?
Yes, the VW Vento is reliable, and pretty cheap to run, but I bought this thing first hand, and the retail value now is next to nothing. I'm waiting for postmodernism to really take off so I can sell it to some sort of 'ironic' car salesman.
