In our new world of rising fuel prices and increased insurance premiums, buying and running a car can see a depressing notion to behold. Don’t fret, though, because if saving money is what you’re all about, those friendly chaps at Skoda have set out on a trip to prove you can be eco without a hybrid.
Their little 1.2-litre 73bhp diesel Fabia managed an astonishing 127.8mpg on the trip from Austria to Denmark – and back again. It’s a figure that defies belief, but also makes you wonder how the driver kept awake. Sure, the run was mostly motorway miles, but give the guy his due; he must have been the most bored man this side of the Atlantic.
