Renault, and more specifically RenaultSport, is famous for smashing records left, right and centre, but none more so than at the Nurburgring in Germany. The infamous track has been the hunting ground for the French marque’s record-breaking run, and now the company’s new Megane RenaultSport 265 Trophy has added to the list.

The new and improved 265 features an extra 15bhp over the standard 250 Cup – hence the name – and also sports several improvements to the car’s chassis and damper settings. The 265 managed to beat the Nurburgring’s record for front-wheel drive production cars by nine seconds. The previous record was held by the track-derived Megane R26R, and even though the new 265 isn’t a spiritual replacement for that monster, it still managed to beat the old car’s time in 8mins 7.97 seconds.
