Proton is in trouble, which means that Lotus – who are owned by Proton – is now in trouble. Proton suffered a horrendous 76 percent drop in profits in the last quarter and could well be considering shifting its Lotus Group International to ensure it doesn’t do a Saab.
The news, which comes from a Bloomberg report, Caradvice.com.au and Gen EngPeng, head of HwangDBS Investment Management Bid, seems to be very possible, indeed.
Pengsaid: "It will make sense for them to sell it... Proton and Lotus are not a good fit. They are in different market segments, both in terms of geography and product".
Whatever happens, we just hope Lotus can continue, because the last thing any of us want is for one of our most respected British brands to suffer the same fate as Saab did a few weeks back.
