Country & Base – Germany – Ingolstadt Key Audi Models
Unlike its main competitors – Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, BMW – Audi is a relative newcomer to the executive saloon car market. The 1970’s saw Audi introduced to the US market, and four decades on, the German marque has managed to build a following and a reputation that any of the aforementioned would be proud of.
Focusing on attention to detail, luxury and affordable prestige, Audi has created its own brand of quality that its rivals can only dream of. The dawn of the new millennium saw Audi enter new segments; with cars that appeal to families and 4x4 enthusiasts. The company once famed for executive saloons is now a manufacturer of almost every type of car you desire – including supercars.
Netcars Need To Know: Audi has established a strong reputation for perceived quality and used valuations reflect this. Buyers looking for the strongest value might well prefer to look at sister marque Volkswagen, or even SEAT or Skoda, but there's not much to beat the four ringed badge for guaranteed residual values. The Audi A2 makes an interesting used buy at the moment, with low running costs and an image that's stronger now than ever it was when new. The mainstream A3, A4 and A6 models sell well with diesel engines, but the latest generation petrol models shouldn't be overlooked, especially if you can find clean, low mileage demonstrators. The Ingolstadt company has latterly carved a reputation for itself in the SUV market and although the Q7 is a bit of a leviathan, the Q5 model is a manageably sized and very desirable used buy, especially when paired with the punchy 3.0 TDI powerplant. Sports models are also held in increasingly high regard. That's largely due to the rather fabulous R8, a model that you can now pick up for under £50,000, this sum netting you an early V8 coupe. Don't overlook the TT RS and the similarly savage RS3, both vehicles that impress with their sheer effectiveness. The TT in particular looks underpriced at the moment, so bargains are available if you look for them. With Audi launching models at a dizzying rate, the future looks good for used buyers looking to get into cars like the Q3, A2 and the A7. With some class-leading engine technology, Audi models don't date rapidly. If you've got the funds, it's a very safe home for your money.
