BMW Alpina D3 5dr (2006)
Alpina D3 - Excellent mix of good fuel usage and POWER

Do you like... POWAH? lol... I've had a few beemers over the last 10 years, started small with an old 8 series and worked up to the Alpina just recently, still second hand, might be able to afford a new one some day. The BMW Alpina D3 itself is a fancy enough car. It isn't quite up to speed with all the fashionable new stuff like those little LED type headlights that look like eyeliner, and actually doesn't have satnav, which you might expect. It's amazingly fast, I keep having to remind myself it's a 2 litre, not to mention a diesel. Just zips away from the lights, and up and up until you're going far too fast. It gives a tiny bit of understeer sometimes but that might just be my fault. Mostly it keeps to the road totally reliably. Best thing I reckon is the fuel usage, gives a very satisfying 45 miles to the gallon, which always makes me smile when I get sneered at by the Prius crowd lol. My other half has a bit of a dodgy back and she's always appreciated the lower back support in the seats, very adjustable too. I reckon that might not be suitable for everyone with a bad back, but works for her. Overtaking is always, er, enjoyable lol... the BMW Alpina gets up from 35 or so to over 60 in no time, you can get past lorries in any old gap that opens out. Biggest down side: the back seats don't fold down, don't really understand why not, would be v useful for getting our littlun's stuff in the back. I haven't had this long and I'm not looking forward to any repair bills. I haven't heard any horror stories though.
