What do you say about a brand that is so American it probably eats hotdogs when nobody is looking? Cadillac isn’t the powerhouse it once was. The years of the Caddies dominating the muscle car scene are over, and the brand has been dying on its feet for well over a decade. The problem lies with its drivers, who are mostly old and decrepit and live in Fort Lauderdale in Florida. Long a byword in America for automotive luxury, Cadillac cars have set many milestones in the history of the automobile. They manufactured the first production V16 engine, the first production V8 engine, incorporated the first successful electric-self-starting engine (eliminating those pesky hand-cranks), the first synchronised transmission, as well as started the craze for those enormous tailfins of the 50’s and 60’s. The Cadillac cars summarised here are the XLR and CTS series. Although many American manufacturers are not well-represented in the UK, non - American viewers will probably recognise the Cadillac CTS as it was seen extensively in the film ‘Matrix Reloaded’. The Cadillac XLR is a high performance convertible, with 320 bhp on tap. These Cadillac cars all feature high-spec interiors, with such driver comforts as heated seats available as standard. As one might expect from an American manufacturer, cruise control is also standard on Cadillac cars. The models on offer here begin at around £24,000, going up to a starting price of £58,000 for the sporty XLR which is full to the brim with equipment, as well as being reliable and having good handling.

This was an import vehicle, left hand drive and everything! That felt weird to begin with, but it passes eventually. My husband is American and I think this was a mix of nostalgia and some sor...
