We had heard bad things about American cars being unreliable, and 'gas guzzlers' and all the rest of it. So we proceeded with caution looking at the Cadillac BLS. We did our homework though and saw that it wasn't a gas guzzler, that was the first thing. We haven't been disappointed with that at all. We certainly get well over 40 miles a gallon according to the meter, which is good for a relatively big car with lots of pulling power.
We tow a caravan for holidays and it's always more than happy with that, and with not too much of a drop in the fuel efficiency. We do drive carefully with the caravan and seldom above 50, so that probably helps.
I think other people must be put off by the reputation that I mentioned above because we got a real bargain. Ours was nearly two years old with a little over 13 thousand on the clock and was less than half the original price! And it's got all sorts of lovely gadgets and comforts, like air con, heated seats, and the glove box doubles as a fridge! The stereo is also rather fab, and another nice thing is that the windscreen wipers know when it's raining and adjust themselves.
The biggest repair needed so far has been the front suspension but that was done under the warranty so the only inconvenience was having it in the garage, and they did it reasonably quickly.
Maybe the best thing is the long distance comfort though. We still say this to each other now, even if the kids don't notice, we do. We had an old Astra before, and the difference is immense. Even long driving days on holiday in France with the caravan are a breeze, lovely cooled air and fantastic comfy seats, couldn't ask for better, and a nice cool drink out of the glove box when you need it!
