I'm not sure what it is about Cadillacs that turn off British drivers, but they seem first of all quite rare, and secondly to have a bit of a bad reputation, I have no idea why. Anyway the upshot was a very low price second hand (at only 3 years old) for a car that cost over twice that new. It had fairly low mileage too. I won't go into specifics about my car but I'm just saying there are some great deals out there.
First good thing of course is the look, the CTS 3.6 V6 Sport does look really mean and classy. That grill on the front says a lot, but at the same time it's not a poser's car. I do get the occasional query of what it is.
It's a great feeling to drive as well. There's bags of power from the big old V6 down there, but feels stable and smooth on the roads, not like it's going to jump off and ram into a tree. Mind you when you stick your foot down you certainly feel a lot of power there. This is particularly handy for overtaking, lots of poke between 30 and 70, and elsewhere besides.
The standard stereo is also amazing. I like a bit of opera on long journeys and it really feels like you're surrounded by it all. Meanwhile the engine and road noise in the car are fairly minimal really.
Space wise we easily get our 3 in the back, and all our gear for outings in the boot. I suppose our youngest might outgrow the middle seat in time, but probably just as the eldest is getting too old and too cool to be hanging around with the family anyway.
One complaint I'd have about the layout of the Cadillac CTS Sport is that the satnav screen is a little too low for me, a little bit too far out of eyeline. So it can be tricky when trying to work out a detail on it, and looking at the road at the same time. You get used to it, but I would prefer one that poked up out of the dash.
Can't say much about reliability as we've only had it a couple of months. I know it had its brakes done before we bought it but I suppose that's to be expected if you're trying to sell a car. It seemed to have a fairly clear history though, as the previous owner included all the paperwork. So here's hoping it stays as reliable as it seems.
