Citroen Berlingo Multispace reviews

Roomy and reliable car that's good on fuel

The Citroen Berlingo has been a reliable car with plenty of room for people and luggage/shopping, plenty of head room and leg room. The back seats fold away for extra room in the back. Good on fuel but not very fast pulling away from stand still or uphill.

The Berlingo VTR - Quite a few repairs so far but good runner and excellent mileage

My Berlingo Multispace has been a bit two sided really. Great car don't get me wrong, but it just keep developing little faults that keep needing fixing. Now, it gets really incredibly good miles to the gallon, I mean 55 or so on long drives, but the repairs sort of take the shine off that. There are quite a few electric niggles here and there, like the back lighting for the speedo and other dials doesn't always work. An indicator light and a reversing light needed changing after a year, and there's a definite problem with the heating system, it's really not getting as hot as you'd expect. I might not get that done until the winter but still it's silly that it should go wrong so quickly. The rear windows also really don't feel that secure, they seem to be coming away from their fixtures in a big way. Maybe they just had an off day on the production line with mine because I've known someone else with a regular Berlingo and they didn't have any of these problems. But apart from the problems it is a fab car with bags of space and loads of practical features. Apart from the mileage, the insurance is also nice and low probably because it doesn't attract any dangerous drivers. For a tall car it's pretty good round the bends and doesn't blow about too much in the wind. Inside the car it's an astonishing amount of space. I have to say one of the things that really really annoys me about most cars is they way they taper off at the bottom and the top, so that the actual amount of space in the car is really badly reduced, if only because they're kind of egg shaped. Now, the Berlingo looks a bit boxy but the benefits really outweigh any funny looks. I've had five people's luggage (family) in the boot, for a two week holiday, with no problem at all. We slung the bikes on the roof too, and it was really happy getting all that lot to the south of France and back - didn't seem to use much extra fuel either. Both front seats have arm rests! Excellent, though they are ever so slightly high up. The kids in the back get little plane style tables with a drinks holder, which really helped to keep us on the move on long holiday drives, although it's only the two at the sides who get the tables so they sometimes squabble. The glove box is an absolute cavern, we've had everyone's lunches in there before and still space for all the normal stuff we stash in there day to day. I suppose it would be a bit daft to release a car called Multispace without having, er, multiple spaces! Anyway it's a really huge tardis with plenty of power, just a big shame about all the repairs.

A car for all seasons!

I bought my Berlingo in 2003, it is used and abused daily and has never let me down. The performance will never set the world on fire, but that is not why I bought it. It is so versatile it is my work vehicle, marshal transport and even accommodation at some circuits! 112.000 miles on her now, and still drives as good as new!
