Fiat Multipla 1.6 Dynamic Plus 5dr (2004)
Lots gone wrong with it

Let me say some nice things first... The Fiat Multipla is very spacious. It looks a bit busy inside when you approach it, but the six seats are well proportioned and you don't tend to hit the leg of the front middle passenger when changing gear. That's a good bit of design work, and overall having six seats is a god send when trying to get a family of five around. It might look a bit odd to some, but it's fine for us. Having a seat in the middle means the hand brake is between the driver seat and the door, which is a neat enough move but can be a little tricky to reach. The cubby holes in the Fiat Multipla are all over-sized and very useful for keeping even larger drinks bottles in. I was never a fan of understated 'classy' looking cubby holes, I want a big bottle of coke next to me! Likewise there are lots of extra spaces like two glove boxes, and seats that move around in all sorts of different ways to make loads of space for different sized loads. The MPG is pretty good, in the 30s most of the time, and it doesn't cost the earth to insure. Anyway nice things aside, it has caused us a LOT of hassle. I'd heard the reputation that Fiat have got for this sort of thing but I suppose I just thought the Fiat Multipla looked so different it must be different. No! There has been a lot of rusting, often quite severe, caused by leakages in a number of places. All sorts of components have needed replacing over the years, the radiator, the locks on two of the doors, exhaust (different sections over the years, the whole thing has probably been replaced twice over now), the heater hose. Lots of other little things, and Fiat always took a good long time coming around to fixing it. Some parts took weeks even to arrive. I've been unhappy overall with their level of service, and couldn't realistically recommend the Multipla, or Fiat in general, to anyone.
