Lamborghini started the supercar revolution back in the ‘60s with the Lamborghini Muria. And, if we’re honest, that car sort of set the tone for Lambo’s future. Bonkers performance coupled with insane design and paint colours, Lamborghini has always been the extreme alternative to a Ferrari. Audi bought the company last decade and has taken Lamborghini to a whole new level. The German’s added build quality and reliability to the Italian marque, meaning it could finally go up against the prancing horse. The Lamborghini Murcielago appropriately named after a famous bull, offers stratospheric performance – 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and on to the sort of speeds which 100 years ago they believed would lead to instant biological collapse. The slower Gallardo (which we understand is named after a breed of bull – see the connection?) only makes it up to 190 mph but never mind: this would still have bred panic in the minds of former savants as you drove past, revelling in the defiance of science. Let’s be honest, we don’t really need to tell you a great deal about Lamborghini cars – you feel them in your gut, not your intellect. This was why the Countach was called the Countach – no, not after something with horns this time – Countach is the Piedmontese word for ‘Wow!’ We share the sentiment.
