Those of you with a decent memory will know that Ligier were once a big noise in the world of Formula 1. With that history it will come as no surprise to learn that the Ligier Ambra we feature here is a…wait a minute, this can’t be right…a .5 litre, 15 bhp city car. Yes, it turns out that Ligier have completely turned themselves over to production of quadricycles.

Okay, now we’ve got over the initial shock and the urge to joke about it, the only question of note regarding the Ligier Ambra is: are they any good? We suppose that it all depends whether you think a 65 mph top-speed and 65 miles per gallon, plus the fact you can drive it on a motorbike license is a any good. There are surely some times when the answer to that question is a resounding yes – city cars are a very popular niche, and who hasn’t come across a time when you want to park face on to the pavement in a tiny gap, as you can in these diddy machines.

We suppose it all boils down to whether you can do without all the odds-and-ends we take for granted in the city car market – whether you really do just want a utilitarian machine to slip between the gaps in the skyscrapers. If you do, this could be for you.
