Lotus began life with one ethos “less is more”, and lightness became their obsession. Colin Chapman, owner and founder, decided to take a different approach to sports car building and he subsequently made a British marque that is respected worldwide. All of Lotus’ cars are nimble, light and fast, and it is that ethos that continues today in all of its road cars. All as one would expect, given that handling is the foundation stone of the Lotus philosophy. At the top end of the Exige variants lies the positively brutal 240R, which swooshes to 60 in a spine-bracing 3.9 seconds and doesn’t run out of legs until it hits 155 mph. The grip that adds to the fun is developed by tailor-made Yokohamas which are almost slicks, coupled with good old-fashioned downforce, which means that at 100 miles per hour you might as well be glued to the road. Both these Lotus cars makes a nod towards modern safety measures by including ABS brakes to help you slow down, but in terms of driving aids, that’s as good as it gets. As we mentioned before, the point of Lotus cars is to throw them round corners at disconcerting velocities…if that’s what you want to do, these are what you want.

Owning a 1990's Lotus can be very tough at times. Lotus, to those in the know, means "Lots of trouble, usually serious". And while I'd love to say this saying is unjustified, i can't. My Espri...
