MG ZR - Seems a shame to have to rate it like this, yeah it's a bit flaky but loads of fun

I don't like putting stars against reliability and that, cos it's hard to describe the MG ZR that way. It's just a damn fine looking car with head turning mojo. It's not a family car and it's not all that reliable. That might be more to do with the previous drivers. I like to think I'm a bit more sensible but I still wanted a car that's a laugh to drive. It's had a few tweaks over the years which I don't really pretend to understand but it's made it louder and smarter for sure. I spose the seats aren't all that comfy, doesn't bother me but my mum doesn't like it much. Actually I will say that it's proper bumpy when you're on dodgy roads or out on little lanes. It has needed quite a lot of work, things coming loose, regularly overheating, electrical problems especially round the windows, suspension rattle and belts needing changing. But what do you want? It's a customised boys car! It's got me a bit more used to understanding what happens inside cars at least. The exhaust has a habit of annoying the neighbours but it's not all that bad, only if I rag it down the road then it pops sometimes. Driving it is awesome. It has no problem dealing with other 1.4s and even some bigger cars pulling away from the lights. It gets up to 60 nice and quick too. Bit of a pain that the revs are so high even at 80 (probly gets up to around 4000 by that point) which doen't help with petrol costs. But I don't use it much so it's not that bad for me. The bucket racing seats make sure you don't go anywhere when you tug it round corners like a nutter. I reckon that in a few years I might get bored of the car just cos of all the repair palava and cos it doesn't have much in the way of features like air con, or windows that work properly lol, or a boot that always opens. Ah what am I saying? Who cares about the practical stuff?? It's a MG ZR! They're just fun cars for good times, busting round town and looking cool. Yeah it's eating me alive for money but what else would I be spending it on? My ZR will stay with me until I'm begging on the streets for repair money.... oh yeah, that won't be long lol ;-\

MG ZR - The worst car you could ever imagine

I wish I could stay patriotic for MG but I can't. Ever since Rover took over, they never made a good car. I thought the MG ZR would be the perfect car for me; i was 22 and looking for something sporty and the ZR seemed to fit the bill - it didn't. First of all, it isn't sporty. It's about as sporty as your nan. And secondly, it's truly awful to drive. It has the poise and the ability of a sumo wrestler, the power of a harnessed child and the performance of a slouth. I can't stress to you enough how bad this car is. The boot is laughable, the economy is rubbish, the interior looks like my two-year old designed it and the drivetrain feels like it's come from a tractor. Need I go on? Avoid at all costs.

Sporty, exciting and fun MG ZR

One of the best car decision, other than the Ford Fiesta. It was fun driving it. It handled well, it was fairly responsive to my foot and my ex-girlfriends and I had lots of fond memories with it. I liked it so much that this car stuck with me for 4 years. Had to finally get rid of it due to the high mileage and increasily high maintenance (MOTs). Not much problem with it. Great car.
