A growing family? And a large wallet? Then this is the car for you!
Mitsubishi stopped manufacturing the Grandis sometime ago, it never really took off in a competitive MPV market dominated by citroen, renault and all things french.
From a looks perspective the Mitsubishi Grandis is impressive, big on the outside and big on the inside. This car will seat 7 BIG adults comfortably. With two fold down full size (and full leather) seats in the boot. Leg room is great!
What lets the car down however outweighs the size:
Build Quality: Is good - but plasticky. And not colour or material coordinated.
Handling: It looks like a tank and I suspect drives like one. Steering is not that responsive. Plenty of roll around bends.
Performance: This thing will move!! With a 2.4l petrol engine and 240bhp, its power matches that of many sports cars! But do you really need all that in a people carrier?
Reliability: From experience we have had one or two issues - mostly around battery drain. With a car of this size - lights, DVD player etc - the battery drains quickly. Also spare parts are expensive! Consumables like tyres, windscreen wipers etc cost a small fortune (and are not always easy to come by).
Running Costs: Owch! This is were it hurts. Returning 23mpg and with road tax in excess of £400.
All in a good strong comfortable family car, just don't expect to buy the kids ice-creams too often as you'll need the money to fill up for the journey home!
