I have owned my shogun for the past ten years and it has been my best vehicle ever, totally reliable great for distance driving in comfort and a really good practical workhorse. It has been used for towing both a boat and a loaded horse trailer and has performed brilliantly. I am now replacing it with another shogun that is a lot newer simply because I feel I deserve a higher spec at my age. The newer one will also be used to tow a horse trailer with two horses on board and I am confident I will be just as pleased with the performance. I must admit I shall be really sorry to see my older one go as it really has been a brilliant vehicle.
Very reliable with not much going wrong in the year and a half that we've owned it.
Tows excellently.
Comfatable ride with front and rear climate control.
Ok the fuel economy is not great but appears to be better than something like a Trooper.
The boot space is minimal so not great for large camping trips or a works vehicle.
Right, from the outset I need to tell anyone who is thinking about buying a Shogun that, if you get the Shogun 3.2-litre version, it's ridiculously quick. I'm not even messing around here. This car will shift.
I don't know why it's so rapid but in second year this thing will really surprise you. I had the van version of the Shogun - which means there are no rear seats - and it never let me down once. It was used primarily as a work horse, which means lots of carrying and lots of miles, but I'm happy to report that it never made a wrong move in the 3 years of ownership.
I changed to a Land Rover Discovery, and even though the Disco is a better car, I would still recommend a Shogun to anyone looking for a durable, rugged and powerful car. It's only downfall seems to come from the company who refuse to bring it into the 21st century.
