Mitsubishi Space Star reviews

Mitsubishi Space Star 1.8 GDI GLX 5dr (1999)
The Spacestar - Economical, plenty of space, reliable, undersung!

I've heard quite a few people sniff at my Space Star compared to Zafiras and Scenics and that lot, but honestly I can't see it. I've known two people with Zafiras who both had literally over a thousand pounds of work done inside two years, meanwhile the Space Star needed a tyre doing and nothing else. Who's sniffing now?! Their main bleat is just smugness about how much ingenious space there is inside their cars, but mine is fine. The Mitsubishi SpaceStar has got three seats in the back, and yes the middle one is pretty puny but that's fine for our kids. I like that all the three seats in the back get proper seat belts, that's reassuring in case we crash as we've regularly got all 3 seats filled. The boot is a very good size, and also nice that the floor of the boot is the same height at the body of the car so you can easy just slip things in and out of the boot. The back seats slide back and forth too which makes for even more boot space. We're a family of five and we've had almost all our stuff in that boot for a week away. We ended up getting a roof bike rack for the bikes, and that was easily fitted with the roof bars already in place. The mileage is good, there's an average fuel usage meter in the front and it shows we're doing up to 50mpg on motorway driving. That drops a bit in town, maybe 35 or so, but still very good for the size of the engine and the loads we carry. I suppose the seats can be a bit achey on longer journeys, but only a bit. There's bags of space though, even for all 6'5" of me! The driving experience is thoroughly reliable and dependable. I suppose you couldn't call it exciting but I'd much rather consistency than an adventure behind the wheel. One other minor complaint is that the paintwork is hardly top notch, does get scratched too easily. These little niggles shouldn't detract from how good the car is though. I've had hardly any repairs needed and what little it needs I can usually do myself. I do the services for it and it's really not as tough as you might expect, as long as you've got the time. Everything is really easy to find and replace under the bonnet.
