Country & Base – Japan – Toyota, Aichi Key Models:
Netcars Need To Know: Toyota has emerged from a rough couple of years stronger and wiser than ever before. It has become better attuned to customer demands and has made a commitment to the production of more dynamic, interesting cars. So what of the cars it's been producing recently? How do they stack up as used buys? Very well actually. Despite the scare stories, Toyota has performed consistently well in customer satisfaction surveys and a low mileage Auris or an Avensis is as close to bulletproof as a used car purchase can be. The Avensis has just been facelifted, so bargains are certainly there for the very low key 2009-2011 car, while the Auris is undervalued on all models bar the voguish Hybrid. Talking of petrol/electric models, there's little let-up in demand for good Priuses, so it might be hard to pick up a real deal here. The Aygo is just starting to feel a bit tired, but the clever iQ is anything but and can be found in 1.0-litre guise in decent numbers. The Verso-S hasn't gained a lot of traction with UK buyers while the larger and more talented Verso is still the most underrated compact MPV around. RAV4 sales have plateaued a little, so bargains can be found here while Land Cruisers are also looking strong value. One model that might be worth a left-field look is the Urban Cruiser, a supermini-based and decidedly funky small MPV. Prices start at less than £9,000 for a 2009 car.

For anybody who is unaware, the Auris is essentially the new Corolla. One thing that shocked me was that this is actually quite an engaging drive for what is quite a bog standard car. It feels...
I've had this for just over ten years now and its still going strong, I'm really pleased with it. I'll take each of the star ratings in turn: build quality: I'd say this is fairly flawless...
