We got our Caravelle at 1 year old with 8k on the clock, dunno why the previous owner ditched it so quickly, must have been a trade vehicle because it hasn't had any major repairs need doing. The only problem, and actually it's a big problem, is that the sliding doors work on an electric motor, which has failed before leaving the doors wide open and refusing to shut. Thankfully we were at home at the time and had it repaired within the warranty they gave us, but if we'd been away somewhere like on holiday then we'd have been a bit stuffed really because you wouldn't be able to go anywhere, or drive the car away, or even escape the elements, you'd just be stuck there waiting for a tow... and even then how would you get it towed? You'd need to empty it out I suppose. It's a pretty silly thing to go wrong is what I mean. But that's all that's gone wrong so far, otherwise it's been fine. Like I said it's got vast amounts of space inside, it is a van after all, and we get our flock of six inside with no problem at all, along with all our kids' increasingly enormous amount of kit they insist on dragging with us on holiday. The 2.5 engine is totally happy dragging us, our stuff, and a large caravan behind. The aerodynamics really agree with a caravan of course, so it doesn't create anywhere near as much drag as it would behind a car.
Little impressive touches inside the Caravelle include that the front windows automatically stop closing if one of the kids has gone and put their fingers in the gap AGAIN, they just never get trapped there. It does make me worry that they'll think all cars do that! I like the parking sensors, that was a big step up from our old Volvo, and also the sliding doors make parking a lot less hassle overall. Also the high up position is commanding, really makes life in traffic a lot easier.
It's very comfy especially in the driving seat, one reason I always volunteer to drive! The other reason being that I don't have to manage the kids! Once you get off the main roads though, when you're on the tracks and trails towards the campsite or wherever, it can get a bit less comfy. It's not an off roader after all, and the ride can be a bit shaky off the beaten track. Nothing serious, but it's just not floating on air.
In the back it is still comfy though, I've had our five a side team in there a few times and all the 7 seats are fine for adults. They can also adjust the temperature back there however they want which is handy.
The fuel use is getting a bit annoying now that the prices are so high, but I'm not sure I'd want to give up all this space and pulling power. The road tax is also £260 a year which is way higher than some big cars. I might have to reconsider at some point but I'm happy for now.
