I’ll kick off with the biggest problem: the two additional rear-most seats are a £500 option. We have found them very useful for carting the kids and friends around, I struggle to see why you wouldn’t want them apart from the fact that they are optional. That’s my biggest issue with this car. It feels a little like the engine is lacking in power to pull its weight, it seems like it always wants a gear change in order to push on. This means you have to work the engine quite hard which in turn, will result in a big pay out at the pumps and that’s quite annoying. As already mentioned, the seating arrangements are pretty good. There are two separate seats in the middles bench with a small middle one and then two right at the back. All have three-point seat belts which is a good safety feature. One issue is that the rear-most seats are really quite difficult to get into and when they’re up, you have very little by way of luggage space. They are also strictly for kids in terms of legroom. But there is plenty of space all round and everything is fitted well even if not the most exciting place in the world to spend time. It’s quite pricey at the outset but you get many standard pieces of equipment leaving little on the options list and I like that about this car.
I had a chance to drive Touran for about a month when I went to stay with my in-laws. My brother-in-law left this car when he went to work in London. With my niece, and my 2 kids, (2 one year olds and 1 infant) and 3 adults, we had 2 baby car seats in the back row and 1 baby seat in the middle row, 2 prams and everyone had a seat, we could still managed to go to Asda and did a week's worth of groceries... And we were still pretty comfortable.. So space wise it really has a big appettite. Not to mention that it is so versatile. Fuel economy: it was hard to accept that I did not hav to refuel as much as I thought I would need to (used to driving petrol cars) ITs so much better than petrol cars. And I heard the Touran has awarded safest car in Europe for a few years in a row too.
We have had new company cars every 3 years for the past 15-20 years. However when this Touran came to the end of its lease we didn't want to part with it. It has been the most comfortable car both in the front and the back, that either of us have ever driven. The storage space is great and very flexible for unusual loads. We transported a cot to Ireland with all our holiday luggage and the 2 children and were all very comfortable. The car is now 5 years old and still going as well as ever.
